Online Andar Bahar

Originated from the southern state of Bengaluru (Bangalore), Andar Bahar is a fascinating Indian gambling game. In the state of Tamil Nadu, it is known by different names – Mangatha or Ullae Veliyae. It’s a pure chance game in which the dealer deals a single card face up to the player, who then chooses between two piles: Andar (inside) or Bahar (outside). 

The dealer carefully shuffles the cards, cuts them, and then deals one card face up. This is an important card as it must match, and thus known as ‘trump card’ or ‘joker’. However, these titles might be deceptive. In a standard English card game, the trump card has the ability to beat any card irrespective of its suit and rank. While ‘joker’ works as a wild card that can be utilised in place of any card. You can call this first card a house card or the middle card as the two piles are dealt on either side of this card.

The players now place their bets on one of the two piles that the dealer will create, known as Andar and Bahar. While enjoying a private game of Andar Bahar, you and your game mates can decide the minimum and the maximum number of bets. However, in the case of online casinos, it is determined by the house.

Inside and outside are referred to as Andar and Bahar (occasionally spelt Baahar) in Hindi, and the two heaps are referred to as Ullae (inside) and Veliyae (outside) in Tamil. This could be because, in the classic game, the inside pile is the pile closest to the dealer, while the outside pile is further away. You may find a similar setup in the online Andar Bahar game. But there might be slight differences with Andar being on the left of the house card and Bahar being on the right side.

Additional forms of bets are available in several online versions of the game.

The dealer now alternates between the Andar and Bahar piles, dealing single cards face-up from the remaining deck. When the house card colour is black, the first card is dealt from the Andar pile while in the case of the red coloured house colour, the Bahar pile is used first. The deal continues until the house card’s rank is matched by a card. Players who gamble on the pile with the matching card win; those who wager on the opposite pile lose.

Basic rules

Even though Andar Bahar is a simple card game, there are a few general rules and gameplay elements that you should be aware of before getting started. Different online casinos with newer alternatives and additional features might have slight variations in terms of rules. We have listed conventional Andar Bahar game rules for your convenience, which are as follows:

• The game begins with the cutting of a pack of cards and exposing one card to all participants.
• After this, players make a bet on the chances of any card (with same value as betting card) coming on either the Andar or Bahar side.
• Players place a bet on whether a card of the same value will appear on the Andar side or on the bahar side.
• Then cards are distributed to the players in accordance with their bet (either Andar or Bahar). The game begins from the Andar side if the house or opening card is black in colour (spades or club). On the contrary, it begins from the Bahar side when the betting card has a red colour (Hearts or Diamond).
• In case of additional betting, two cards are dealt in the starting instead of one from both betting spots. After this players place their final bets.
• Cards are then distributed for both sides while they wait in the anticipation of a match to occur on their side.
• The game comes to an end when any side either the Andar or the Bahar gets the card with the exact value as that of the chosen card.
• If you had placed the bet on the correct side where the match has occurred then you will receive your winnings.
• Else, in all other cases (bets) dealer win.

Let’s understand this with a simple example. Suppose the betting card has a value of 5. Now, if you place a bet on the Andar side and the same side gets the card with exact value as that of the betting card, you will receive the full winnings. But in the case, when the card will appear on the opposite side (the Bahar in your case), you will have to give the betting amount.
